Maintenance Mechanic

Concern Housing is a non-profit agency committed to helping individuals and families live in the community with dignity and enhanced opportunities through the provision of housing and support services. We serve approximately 1,300 individuals and families in over 240 locations across New York State, offering a variety of housing options with individualized support services designed to support personal growth and independence.

About the role

This position is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance needs of Concern’s various locations and general upkeep of the agency’s property. The home department is located in Ronkonkoma, NY.

Schedule

Tuesday – Saturday; 7am – 3pm

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds at various facilities/sites, including carpentry, minor electrical, plumbing, masonry, painting, cleaning, and yard care.
• Repairs and treats structures such as floors, showers, sinks, walls, and carpets.
• Repairs door hinges; changes filters on systems; services appliances; reports malfunctions to supervisor.
• Moves and assists in moving furniture and equipment at various facilities/sites.
• Exercises discretion in identifying projects requiring the services of a higher-skilled craftsperson.
• Maintains clean, safe, and orderly work areas.
• Available for overtime hours as needed and directed by the Director.
• Performs maintenance tasks as directed by the Maintenance Director, Maintenance Supervisor, and Property Manager.
• Responsible for the care of tools and equipment used in performing tasks.
• Remains current with all agency-required compliance documents and trainings.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma (preferred) along with 6 months or more of related experience (preferred).
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, client/customer service skills, and ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively with a team.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning products.
• Ability to perform routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying items weighing less than fifty pounds; moving items over fifty pounds utilizes a team lift.
