Maintenance Mechanic - Asheville

Essential Job Functions

• Performs scheduled, unscheduled, routine and preventive maintenance on industrial sewing machines as well as on all plant equipment, including industrial sewing machines.
• Performs routine inspections on all plant equipment.
• Determines and carries out corrective action for diagnosed mechanical problems.
• Completes facility maintenance on required projects involving electrical wiring, plumbing, physical structures, and fixtures within the employee’s scope of knowledge.
• Works jointly with the Trainer to design/improve any machine, workstation, or fixtures that will allow a visually impaired person to perform a task.
• Provides backup for Utility Person – Maintenance.

Marginal Job Functions

• Affords assistance to other personnel as time and knowledge permit.
• Participates in training and meetings as requested.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop and turn for a minimum of 10 hours per day.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds and carry for a minimum of 20 feet.
• Must be able to work both scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
• Must wear steel toed shoes.

• Must be able to hear and discern by sound equipment malfunctions.
• Must be able to work professionally as part of a team with other department employees.
• Must be able to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workloads.
• Must be able to comprehend and perform duties using established work and safety procedures.

Education and Work Experience

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience in industrial sewing machine maintenance is required.
• Previous experience in physical plant maintenance is required.
• Training/experience in mechanical, electrical and general plumbing is preferred.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain forklift certification.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable through the company.
