As a member of the HDH team, you will be part of a self-funded unit with over 1,200 staff employees, over 2,000 student employees, and an annual operating budget of $371 million, providing housing and dining services to over 20,000 students, faculty, staff, and their families.

About the role

Perform skilled journey level work independently or as part of a regular maintenance crew. May be assigned duties in one or more of the building trades including, but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, locks, e-locks, HVAC, and boiler and steam generator systems. Instruct unskilled or semi-skilled assistants. Assigned to cover campus Housing and Dining Services facilities performing maintenance work dispatched by Customer Service Center dispatcher, maintenance superintendent or campus police. Provides a high level of customer service to customers. Works as a team in conjunction with other divisions within Housing, Dining, Hospitality and other campus departments.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled journey-level maintenance in one or more building trades (plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, HVAC, boiler and steam systems, locks, e-locks).
• Use tools for installing and repairing plumbing systems, electrical systems, refrigeration, HVAC, sheet metal, and power tools for carpentry.
• Make temporary and permanent repairs to doors and associated hardware.
• Work with hermetic and semi-hermetic type compressors and chillers.
• Follow all safety precautions in methods and use of equipment.
• Identify and use different types of pipe and tubing for water, steam, gas systems, and refrigeration.
• Use all types of meters and operate drain clearing equipment.
• Operate electric arc-welder, tig-welder, and gas welding equipment.
• Identify and use different types of refrigerant.
• Use all tools appropriate for mechanical and electrical maintenance.
• Communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, including students, staff, faculty, and guests.
• Function effectively as a team member, working cooperatively with co-workers to achieve unit and area goals.
• Provide excellent customer service, including greeting customers, completing work professionally, and following up until the job is completed.
• Instruct unskilled or semi-skilled assistants.

Requirements

• Journey-level skill in one or more of the following trades: plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, boiler and steam systems, and HVAC.
• Certification at the Universal level to handle refrigerant at the time of hire.
• Valid driver’s license and a driving record in accordance with local policies/procedures.
• Ability to work scheduled shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays that fall on scheduled workdays.
• Must work overtime as needed.
• Background check required.

Special Conditions

• Must enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
• May need to work five 8-hour or four 10-hour shifts, including day, evening, and night shifts with proper notice.
• This position is identified as a Mandated Reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.
• Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

Pay

Annual Full Pay Range: $103,293 (prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $49.47

Schedule

Days, 8 hrs/day, Tues-Sat, 7:30am-4:00pm (work on holidays that fall on scheduled workdays).
