About the role

Lead reliability and preventive maintenance initiatives, providing technical oversight to maintenance technicians to safeguard product quality, personnel safety, and regulatory compliance across multiple shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Modify and repair conveyors, ovens, coolers, mixers, and packaging machinery to increase throughput, reduce energy consumption, and meet USDA/FDA sanitary design standards.
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, bills of material, and technical specifications for new installations and retrofits using CAD and FEA tools.
  • Develop and own the plant’s preventive maintenance (PM) and condition-based monitoring programs including vibration analysis, oil analysis, and infrared thermography to extend asset life and achieve ≥95% planned labor utilization.
  • Generate maintenance procedures, work instructions, and checklists; verify execution through regular audits and KPI reviews.
  • Lead failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and root cause investigations for chronic downtime events; recommend design changes or process adjustments to eliminate recurring faults and achieve best in class MTBF.
  • Track downtime data, create Pareto analyses, and present counter measures to plant leadership.
  • Manage capital projects from scope development through start-up: prepare cost estimates, write RFQs, evaluate vendor proposals, and coordinate contractors during equipment installation, commissioning, and validation.
  • Ensure projects are executed on time, within budget, and in compliance with ASME, NFPA, NEC, and company safety standards.
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to production supervisors and technicians, troubleshooting complex mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues.
  • Deliver ongoing skill building sessions on precision maintenance, lock out/tag out (LO/TO), and new technology rollouts; mentor technicians in reading schematics and interpreting engineering documentation.
  • Conduct monthly safety training and engineering reviews to maintain zero lost time incidents; investigate any injuries within 24 hours and complete detailed engineering analyses within 48 hours.
  • Champion food safety and GMP adherence by integrating hygienic design principles into all mechanical systems.
  • Standardize maintenance workflows across shifts to drive consistency and maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as downtime per line, PM compliance, spare parts turns, energy intensity, and implement Kaizen and Six Sigma initiatives to surpass plant targets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electromechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 2 years of experience.
  • Experience or education in performing predictive and preventive maintenance engineering on manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience or education in troubleshooting and repairing complex mechanical, electrical, or control systems.
  • Experience or education in using a Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Experience or education in developing and executing strategic asset management plans.
  • Experience or education in applying formal root cause and reliability methodologies to eliminate chronic equipment failures and increase Mean Time Between Failures.
  • Experience or education in leading, coaching, and evaluating maintenance or engineering direct reports.
  • Experience or education in managing capital improvement or maintenance projects.
  • Experience or education in implementing Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma tools.
  • Experience or education in interpreting mechanical drawings or electrical schematics to diagnose issues and guide corrective actions.
  • Experience or education in communicating technical findings and project status to cross-functional stakeholders through written reports, presentations, and on-floor briefings.
