About the role
Lhoist North America seeks a Direct Maintenance Hourly Employee to oversee subcontractors and meet short and long-range objectives with optimum efficiency. The position involves planning maintenance/capital budgets, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving a proactive approach to asset management and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Directs and prioritizes needed repairs
- Advises production/plant management on equipment status and repair needs
- Identifies and resolves equipment failures
- Allocates resources appropriately in response to competing demands
- Manages contractor selection and utilization
- Communicates effectively with maintenance staff
- Establishes and communicates department vision
- Develops and implements maintenance processes
- Champions maintenance department communications
- Supports Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) initiatives
- Ensures regulatory compliance
- Implements spares management best practices
- Drives culture change from reactive to proactive
- Provides feedback to direct reports
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related technical field (desired)
- Master’s degree (plus)
- Preferred: Strong Electrical, PLC control, Mechanical Maintenance background
- 5-7 years previous maintenance leadership experience in a fast-paced heavy manufacturing, construction, or mining environment (LIME, MINERALS, CEMENT)
- Previous dryer, heavy equipment, conveyor, crushing machinery experience (desired)
- Experience developing and implementing reliability systems and programs (desired)

- Strong knowledge of electrical power infrastructure and process control systems
- Demonstrated management and financial leadership experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills
- Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meet all required deadlines
- Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs
- Good understanding of safety, environmental, and the desire to follow all established procedures
- Forward-looking action-oriented team player that works well with cross-functional groups
- Sound judgment when deciding among multiple alternatives
- Able to multi-task, with excellent organizational and communication skills, and can think “outside the box”
