About the role
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the multi-faceted operation of all maintenance-related work. You will oversee the supervision and safety of Darling and Contractor maintenance crews on all shifts, develop and implement corrective & preventive maintenance procedures within the plant, and handle sourcing and maintaining the facility's spare parts inventory.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Ensure that the staff and location are working in compliance with all Company, State or Federal OSHA Safety Policies and Practices.
- Lead, train, and implement maintenance processes and operations.
- Develop, assign, and implement repair schedules, taking production activities into account.
- Evaluate repair cost estimates and return of dollars expended.
- Proficiently use computer-based CMMS systems, schedules, and capabilities; evaluate CMMS-based reports, make decisions based on these reports, and communicate actions to staff as well as local and regional management.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures for staff and contractors.
- Evaluate and implement any corrective actions necessary to resolve mechanical and/or building problems that may arise in the plant.
- Forecast needs, source through competitive bids, and maintain appropriate spare parts inventory.
- Provide or source technical guidance in maintenance craft categories (e.g., troubleshooting, installation, PLC logic controls (hardware and software), preventive maintenance, electrical, fabrication).
- Evaluate and decide using technical specifications provided on equipment data sheets to base installation or performance decisions.
- Train new personnel on Company safety procedures and safe operating standards in accordance with OSHA.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of maintenance equipment, shops, spare parts storage, and common areas.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree (or Vocational Technical Degree) in a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5+ years of management experience in an industrial setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge or prior work experience in industrial electrical, mechanical, and preventive/predictive maintenance procedures.
- Proficiency using CMMS, MS Word, and MS Excel.
Additional requirement
- Must have the ability to work during off-shift hours (i.e., nights, weekends, or holidays) if required, based on plant production needs.
Preferred qualifications
- Management experience in an agricultural business preferred; prior rendering experience a plus.
- Excellent organizational and leadership abilities; ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Comfortable working and leading staff in a fast-paced plant environment.
- Ability to facilitate the training of all maintenance personnel.
- Ability to coordinate multiple contractors on multiple projects, jobs, or tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to source installations of electronic, electrical, and/or mechanical projects.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Team player; works well with others.
- Good math skills.
Physical demands
- Frequently required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
- Occasionally required to push, pull, or move up to 50 lbs.
- Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
Work environment
Job functions will be carried out in plant or office environment and on outside grounds of property.
