About the role
The Maintenance Lead is responsible for performing and supervising plant maintenance of rendering process equipment; ensures that equipment and buildings are sanitary and in good repair with a direct report to the Plant Manager.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoots and repairs process machinery and hydraulic equipment.
- Changes electrical breakers and electrical starters; operates voltage, amp, and ohm meters.
- Follows preventative maintenance schedule on all plant equipment.
- Provides direction and leadership for the maintenance crew and daily activities and duties.
- Trains Level 1 and Level 2 Maintenance personnel.
- Responsible for ensuring all Company safety procedures and safe operating standards are followed by plant personnel, in accordance with OSHA.
- Responsible for cleanliness of equipment and regularly scheduled safety inspections.
- Manages daily inventory of supplies and parts, ensuring replacements are ordered in a timely fashion.
- Attends regularly scheduled safety meetings and may be asked to serve on Safety Committee.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in supervisory position / overseeing plant personnel in an industrial setting or in combination.
- Proficient in basic welding and fabrication skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in maintenance with industrial equipment and/or combination of vocational training.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of industrial electrical, mechanical, and welding procedures.
- Prior rendering experience preferred.
- Advanced welding experience/skills preferred.
- Vocational school training preferred.
- Good communication skills both oral and written.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Team player; works well with others.
- Detail oriented; well organized.
- Good math skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Exposed to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environments such as high noise level, strong odors, and/or exposure to heat and cold.
- Exposed to bio hazardous conditions.
- Exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations.
- Exposed to Electrical hazards; risk of electrical shock.
- Handles or works with potentially dangerous equipment.
- Travels to offsite locations.
Physical Demands
- Sit: Must be able to remain in a stationary position.
- Walk: Must be able to move about inside/outside office or work location.
- Use hands to finger, handle or feel: Operates a computer and other office machinery.
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl: Must be able to position one's self to maintain computers in the lab, including under desks and in the server closet.
- Climb or balance: Must be able to ascend/descend on a ladder.
- Talk, hear, taste, smell: Must be able to use senses to; effectively communicate with co-workers and clients and detect hazardous conditions.
