Maintenance Lead

About the role

A Maintenance Lead Person assists with the maintenance of the plant’s equipment, including preventive maintenance, and supports the department supervisor and facilities manager with special projects and overall direction of the department.

Responsibilities

• Directs crews and establishes priorities through communication with Facility and Operations Management.
• Possess a good working knowledge of machine controls (PLC, relay, AC motor drives, hydraulic, pneumatic, and steam control valves including pilot and solenoid types).
• Demonstrate fabrication skills including the use of basic shop equipment, TIG and MIG welding, and basic lathe and millwork.
• Troubleshoot and adjust all controls and mechanical components in equipment systems and perform critical preventive maintenance (PM) tasks.
• Maintain a working knowledge of plant utility systems (compressed air, steam, domestic water systems, etc.).
• Perform basic building maintenance and repairs (manual and power doors, dock equipment, walls, floors, etc.).
• Provide direction to junior mechanics on troubleshooting and repair.
• Ensure GMPs and SOPs are followed, and support and teach Food Safety rules for the Maintenance department.
• Follow OSHA and EPA guidelines and procedures where applicable.
• Repair pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical components of common industrial equipment (e.g., drives, gearboxes) with little to no supervision.
• Ensure department procedures and practices are followed, in collaboration with the department supervisor.
• Possess a good working knowledge of all jobs in the department, including troubleshooting, repairing, and operating all equipment safely.
• Train new employees assigned to the department.
• Assist with maintenance reporting or department paperwork as necessary.
• Perform other job functions as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent plus specialized training.
• More than 5 years of mechanical experience demonstrating proven growth in mechanical knowledge and ability.
• Ability to work as a team within the department and collaborate with all facility personnel.
• Strong communication skills with Supervision, Quality Assurance, Safety, and USDA personnel.
• Willingness and capability to learn new equipment and attend necessary training.
