Maintenance Journeyman - Pump Mechanic

CVR Energy’s Wynnewood refinery is looking for a self-directed Maintenance Journeyman Millwright to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair rotating equipment and process machinery, install and commission new systems, and mentor other craftsmen.

About the role

The Maintenance Journeyman Millwright performs all duties in compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations and industry best practices. You will work on multiple projects, install and repair refinery rotating equipment, fabricate parts, and ensure safe, reliable operation. The role requires adjusting schedules to meet business needs and collaborating across work groups during downtime and outages.

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, repair, and maintain rotating equipment within the refinery.
• Disassemble and reassemble equipment after inspections, testing, or repairs.
• Operate newly repaired machinery to verify adequacy of repairs.
• Fabricate, cut, weld, and repair metal parts; assemble new equipment.
• Use hand and power tools to complete assigned work tasks.
• Set up, prepare, and inspect worksites; clean up upon project completion.
• Ensure safety devices function properly after repairs, modifications, or installations.
• Participate in the preventive maintenance (PM) program for continuous improvement.
• Maintain detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
• Study blueprints or manufacturer’s manuals to determine correct installation or operation.
• Record repairs and maintenance performed.
• Communicate regularly with management regarding work progress, concerns, and questions.
• Follow guidelines and procedures to ensure rotating equipment operates safely and reliably.
• Work near potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate of Applied Science degree in Machine Technology or related field preferred.
• Journeyman Industrial Mechanic certification, official apprenticeship qualification, or NCCER Millwright Certification preferred.
• 3+ years’ experience with rotating equipment, industrial mechanics, or millwright work; 5+ years in a refinery environment preferred.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word preferred.
• Ability to operate machine tools to fabricate parts during overhaul, maintenance, or setup.
• Skill in reading diagrams, schematic drawings, P&IDs, and fabrication drawings to determine work procedures.
• Knowledge of piping, water exchangers, seal flush plans, lubrication systems, and torquing procedures.
• Ability to use laser alignment equipment, calipers, and dial indicators to measure clearances, tolerances, or runout.
• Understanding of bearings, lubricants, seals, compressors, pumps, cylinders, valves, pipe configurations, shaft packing, and drive systems.
• Specific knowledge of centrifugal pump machinery repairs; reciprocating compressor knowledge preferred.
• Ability to provide and receive directions from others.
• Fluent in English, both oral and written.
• Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs.
