Maintenance/Irrigation Technician III

Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs installation, troubleshooting, and repair of irrigation systems, including valves, controllers, backflow preventers, spray heads, drip lines, and underground piping.
• Maintains irrigation system performance, identifies leaks or inefficiencies, and performs seasonal adjustments to optimize water use.
• Covers preventative maintenance on irrigation timers and pumps to ensure proper operation and coverage.
• Schedules watering cycles with landscaping staff to ensure proper turf and plant health.
• Maintains accurate records of irrigation maintenance, repairs, and parts inventory.
• Performs general building maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and HVAC preventive maintenance programs.
• Installs, repairs, adjusts, and maintains all campus equipment in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Cleans equipment and work areas; maintains inventory of tools, supplies, and materials.
• Adheres to College safety policies and procedures and reports unsafe conditions promptly.
• Affords assistance in moving materials, furniture, and equipment as required.
• Attends classes and seminars to stay current with irrigation technology and maintenance practices.
• May be required to work on weekends, holidays, or during emergencies (on-call responsibilities).

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Working knowledge of irrigation system components, hydraulics, and electrical controls.
• Ability to diagnose and repair leaks, clogs, and malfunctioning irrigation heads and valves.
• Familiarity with smart irrigation controllers and water management practices.
• General knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and HVAC systems.
• Ability to perform general building maintenance tasks and interpret blueprints or schematics.
• Ability to identify and solve complex maintenance problems.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Physical ability to lift 50 pounds and work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
• Ability to work independently, follow detailed instructions, and respond effectively to on-call requests.
