About the role
Covia is seeking a dynamic Maintenance 1 individual to join our team at the Fort Smith, AR location. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our operations.
Responsibilities
- Comply with MSHA regulations and adhere to safety protocols.
- Evaluate tasks using the SLAM risk protocol and report near misses, unsafe acts, or injuries.
- Administer safety and health policies and implement the SLAM risk method.
- Operate and service equipment safely, reducing damage, downtime, and quality issues.
- Communicate with production supervisors and kiln operators about mechanical issues affecting production.
- Become competent in computerized maintenance work order and work history software.
- Aid in continuous improvement projects and assist in identifying areas for equipment improvement.
- Perform plant maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on all on-site equipment.
- Fabricate new equipment or repair components for plant machinery.
- Install electrical components.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in the plant.
- Proactively manage equipment to meet availability and reliability targets.
- Assist in planning and performing maintenance tasks.
- Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
Qualifications
- Literacy in English, both written and spoken.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Previous experience within plant operations, preferably in mineral processing.
- At least two years of experience in a maintenance role.
- Previous exposure to preventative maintenance strategies.
- Ability to read manuals, blueprints, and electrical diagrams.
- Demonstrated experience in contributing to a team to achieve set targets.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety with previous experience in identifying and managing risks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ball mills and kilns.
- Welding and metal fabrication skills.
- Knowledge of dust collection systems and associated fans.
- Understanding of industrial fluid power and pumping systems.
- Experience with mechanical drives and power transmission.
- Skills in replacing and troubleshooting electrical motors.
- Experience with industrial electricity and troubleshooting electrical control circuits.
