About the role
Covia is seeking a dynamic Maintenance Technician to join their team at the Hephzibah, GA location. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and productive operation of the plant.
Responsibilities
- Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
- Report unsafe conditions to supervisor; take action to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks, such as checking, cleaning, calibration, and repairing equipment.
- Examine work orders and converse with equipment operators to detect equipment problems and determine the cause.
- Be responsible, self-motivated, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality.
- Maintain, install, move, dismantle, and repair process equipment, vehicles, machines, motors, etc.
- Learn and use computer systems and instruments to troubleshoot issues.
- Maintain and repair buildings, materials handling or transporting equipment, heavy mining equipment, electrical equipment and systems.
- Operate material handling equipment; use a variety of tools and equipment, such as oxyacetylene cutting and welding equipment, electric welding equipment, jack hammers, presses, power saws, and hand tools.
- Plan maintenance work with operations, contractors, and other plant employees as requested by the Maintenance supervisor.
- Maintain records of labor used on each job; clean work area; and perform other related tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
- If business or operational situations necessitate, the Maintenance Technicians may be called upon to backfill operations personnel. They are also expected to proactively assist operations personnel as needed in daily activities to meet organizational objectives.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Vocational training given preference.
- Experience as a mechanic or multi-craft technician is mandatory.
- Experience working with electricity is preferred.
- PLC programming experience is a plus.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in a mining environment is a plus.
- Working experience with screw conveyors, belts, feeders, rotary valves, dust collectors.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Able to work safely and wear PPE as required.
- Experience using computers and maintenance software.
- Good communication skills: verbal and written.
- Willingness to work overtime and be available for call backs.
- Capable of working in all areas and locations of plant sites.
- Work closely with Maintenance and Production personnel on site, as well as assist teammates in completing tasks outside the scope of typical responsibilities.
- Maintain parts inventory.
- Requires good manual dexterity, vision, hearing, eye-hand coordination, and physical capability to perform heavy work.
- Must be able to wear a respirator if required for an extended period.
- Must be able to work in elevated locations.
