About the Role
Under general supervision of the Director of Maintenance & Operations, the Maintenance HVAC III leads, oversees, reviews, and participates in the work of staff performing skilled tasks. The position is responsible for providing an optimum environment for teaching and learning through the maintenance of systems that control room temperatures. This includes skilled work in the installation, maintenance, repair, modification, and operation of air conditioning systems, heating, ventilating, and boiler equipment, as well as other maintenance work as required.
Oversees and ensures that preventative and corrective maintenance on HVAC equipment is completed according to established schedules and timelines.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the advanced-level classification in the HVAC series, responsible for performing the most complex work assigned to the series. This includes leading and directing the work of assigned maintenance staff and/or performing skilled HVAC maintenance and repair duties. Incumbents regularly work on tasks that are varied and complex, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgment. Positions rely on experience and judgment to perform assigned duties. Assignments are given with general guidelines, and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to complete assignments. Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements.
Receives direction from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises technical and functional direction over and provides training to less experienced staff. Does not exercise direct supervision over staff.
Responsibilities
- Lead, oversee, review, and participate in the work of staff performing skilled HVAC maintenance and repair.
- Maintain systems controlling room temperatures to provide an optimal environment for teaching and learning.
- Install, maintain, repair, modify, and operate air conditioning systems, heating, ventilating, and boiler equipment.
- Perform other maintenance work as required.
- Ensure preventative and corrective maintenance on HVAC equipment is completed according to established schedules and timelines.
- Provide technical direction and training to less experienced staff.
Requirements
- Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by specialized coursework and training in HVAC.
- Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in HVAC servicing, preferably at a higher educational institution or a large business with a multi-building campus.
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License (to be maintained throughout employment).
- Possession of a valid EPA 608 Certification (to be maintained throughout employment).
- Upon conditional offer of employment:
- DOJ and FBI Criminal Background Check
- TB Test within the last 60 days (Education Code 49406, Assembly Bill 1667)
- Complete district training on Mandated Reporter, COVID-19, and Sexual Harassment
- Pre-Employment Physical Evaluation conducted through the District
Physical Demands
- Demonstrate sufficient strength, mobility, and range of motion to arm lift 50 pounds and floor lift 50 pounds.
- With or without the use of aids, the ability to:
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Lift and move adaptive equipment.
- Physically restrain and control a student up to 200 pounds with assistance.
- Perform gross motor activities, climb in and out of cars, vans, and buses, walk and run with students.
- Climb well enough to go up and down stairs, maneuver students into and out of vehicles, wheelchairs, and toilets.
- Read printed material (with or without aids).
- Hear normal and telephone conversations (with or without aids).
- Speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation.
- Use manual dexterity to write and use telephone and other business/office machines.
- The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; climbing and balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching; reaching, understanding, and following oral and written directions.
Pay
$34.16 to $41.48 per hour.
