About the role

The Maintenance Group Leader is accountable for providing leadership and direction to assigned members of the crew to meet business requirements for efficient production of metal in an ABS environment. Under the direction of the Maintenance Superintendent, the incumbent ensures productivity, safety, quality, improved recovery, reliable and consistent delivery performance, and rapid problem-solving in planned and unplanned cost-effective, customer-centric operations. These objectives are accomplished in accordance with lean manufacturing principles, modeling and teaching employees to move the organization toward target conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a safe work environment and a workplace that causes no harm to people or the environment.
  • Leading individual safety discussions and job-specific safety reviews.
  • Supervising a technically capable maintenance workforce of approximately 35 employees, fostering a diverse, customer-focused, responsive, and flexible team environment.
  • Supporting operating results through the management of subordinates with emphasis on quantity, quality, timeliness, safety, recovery, and delivery performance.
  • Developing individuals in the organization by providing challenging assignments for the craftspeople and by providing training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Ensuring work is allocated fairly and clearly assigned to crew members; formulating and assigning tasks within guidelines established by Department management, prioritizing work based on business criticality.
  • Deciding and deploying appropriate crewing arrangements for planned and unplanned situations based on absences, schedule requirements, equipment availability, and vacations within labor agreement guidelines.
  • Working with craftspeople to apply root cause analysis and rapid problem-solving techniques to maintain or restore production.
  • Gathering data to assist in the application of root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques for major exceptions.
  • Ensuring effective asset management in a cost-effective manner, including proper equipment operations, world-class equipment availability, and long-term viability of equipment.
  • Advancing business objectives regarding quality (consistency and reliability), costs (supplies), waste elimination, and lean manufacturing.
  • Making decisions about differential performance, both those requiring recognition and reward and those requiring discipline, in a fair and equitable manner with supporting documentation.
  • Seeking cooperation from, persuading, or influencing others, developing relationships, and resolving problems to produce customer satisfaction.

Schedule

This position supervises an 8-hour day shift, Monday through Friday (6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.). The role may also require supervisory coverage of second and third shifts and occasional weekend work to meet operational and business needs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience with direct reports.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee).

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Mechanical background.
  • Experience in a union environment.
  • Knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and practices related to HR/IR, including bargaining and local agreements.
  • Working knowledge of principles and concepts of Lean Manufacturing (ABS) for effective business results.
