Franklin Industries is seeking a Group Leader for our Maintenance Team. This role coordinates daily activities of the Maintenance Department while actively performing the duties of an Industrial Maintenance Technician (Millwright). The position serves as the Maintenance Manager's primary operational coordinator, organizing daily assignments, coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, supporting work planning, assisting with parts procurement, maintaining documentation, and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Safety Leadership
    • Promote and model safe maintenance practices.
    • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
    • Monitor maintenance activities for safe work practices.
    • Conduct job safety discussions as appropriate.
    • Report safety concerns promptly.
    • Participate in safety meetings and investigations.
  • Maintenance Coordination
    • Coordinate daily maintenance activities.
    • Assist the Maintenance Manager in prioritizing work assignments.
    • Coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance schedules.
    • Monitor work progress and communicate priorities.
    • Coordinate maintenance support for production departments.
    • Support efficient utilization of maintenance resources.
  • Mechanical Maintenance
    • Perform all duties of an Industrial Maintenance Technician (Millwright).
    • Troubleshoot and repair production equipment.
    • Perform preventative maintenance.
    • Support emergency repairs.
    • Assist with equipment installations and modifications.
  • Work Planning
    • Assist in developing daily maintenance schedules.
    • Coordinate planned shutdown activities.
    • Ensure work orders are properly assigned and completed.
    • Monitor work order status.
    • Assist with maintenance planning and scheduling.
  • CMMS and Documentation
    • Maintain accurate CMMS work orders.
    • Review completed maintenance documentation.
    • Assist in maintaining equipment history.
    • Support preventative maintenance scheduling.
    • Maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Parts and Inventory Support
    • Assist with identifying replacement parts.
    • Coordinate parts requests with the Storeroom Support Associate.
    • Assist the Maintenance Manager with purchasing recommendations.
    • Monitor maintenance inventory requirements.
    • Support inventory accuracy.
  • Workforce Development
    • Assist with onboarding new maintenance associates.
    • Reinforce Franklin Industries' maintenance standards.
    • Provide day-to-day coaching and guidance.
    • Support cross-training within the department.
    • Communicate performance observations to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Production Support
    • Coordinate maintenance activities with Production leadership.
    • Communicate equipment status and repair progress.
    • Support planned shutdowns and equipment startups.
    • Minimize production interruptions through effective coordination.
    • Assist with emergency response during equipment failures.
  • Equipment Reliability
    • Support preventative maintenance initiatives.
    • Monitor recurring equipment failures.
    • Participate in Root Cause Analysis activities.
    • Recommend improvements to maintenance procedures.
    • Support reliability improvement projects.
  • Housekeeping
    • Support Franklin Industries' housekeeping and 3S initiatives.
    • Maintain organized maintenance work areas.
    • Ensure tools and equipment are properly stored.
    • Promote housekeeping standards throughout the Maintenance Department.
  • Communication and Teamwork
    • Communicate effectively with Maintenance Manager, Senior Millwright, Industrial Maintenance Technicians, Millwright Apprentices, Industrial Electricians, Welder/Fabricator, Lubrication Technician, Production Leadership, and Storeroom Support Associate.
    • Communicate maintenance priorities, equipment status, and project updates.
    • Foster teamwork throughout the Maintenance Department.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Participate in Lean and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Recommend improvements to maintenance planning, workflow, and equipment reliability.
    • Support implementation of approved improvements.
  • Other Duties
    • Participate in shutdowns and capital projects.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated competency as an Industrial Maintenance Technician (Millwright).
  • Minimum five (5) years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience using CMMS software.
  • Ability to read blueprints, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Heavy manufacturing or steel industry experience.
  • Experience coordinating maintenance projects.
  • Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
  • Supervisory or leadership training.
  • Purchasing or inventory experience.

Physical Demands

The physical requirements described below represent those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Perform all physical requirements of an Industrial Maintenance Technician (Millwright).
  • Stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl throughout the shift.
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Work around heavy industrial equipment, overhead cranes, and elevated work areas.
  • Alternate between office, shop, and production environments.

Working Conditions

  • Safety-sensitive position.
  • Heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to heat, sparks, welding fumes, noise, vibration, dust, overhead cranes, and varying temperatures.
  • Required use of PPE including welding helmet, welding gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, FR clothing, respiratory protection (when required), and safety footwear.

Pay

Starting pay: $30/hour, depending on previous experience. Overtime is paid at 1.5x pay after 40 hours. New employees are eligible for merit raises and cross-training opportunities after passing their 90-day probationary period.
