FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full-power broadcast television stations in the U.S., including stations in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas (DMAs) and duopolies in 11 DMAs, such as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Eighteen of these stations are affiliated with the FOX Network. The stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news weekly and distribute sports, entertainment, and syndicated content.

About the role

KTBC Fox 7, a Fox-owned and operated TV station in downtown Austin, TX, is seeking a full-time, customer service-focused, and team-oriented Maintenance Engineer. This role involves installing, operating, and maintaining video, audio, and other broadcast and non-broadcast equipment, including data networks (SMPTE ST 2110 standards), production control switchers, audio mixers, automation systems, routing switchers, server-based record and play-out systems, non-linear editors, encoders, decoders, multiplexers, newsroom computer systems, media streaming systems, and RF transmission equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide paramount customer service and collaborate with other departments.
  • Work with the engineering team to design, install, test, and document new systems and equipment as assigned.
  • Manage and maintain data networks while adhering to the Information Security Team's policies.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance on systems supporting broadcast operations for live and production events.
  • Troubleshoot and repair technical faults quickly to minimize service loss.
  • Perform software and hardware updates, tests, and installations as required.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to technical operating staff on day-to-day operations and workflows.
  • Practice, teach, and encourage best engineering standards and practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to solve complex problems and concentrate for long periods.
  • Solid working knowledge of broadcast and network systems; experience in RF and fiber optic workflows is desirable.
  • Ability to work proactively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team collaboration skills and ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Flexibility with workflow changes, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and high organization.
  • Prior experience in television, radio broadcast engineering, or similar technical disciplines is preferred.
  • Associate degree with an emphasis in Engineering/IT is preferred, or at least four years of equivalent industry experience.
  • Ability to climb ladders up to 20 feet, lift 40 pounds, and work in tight spaces.
  • Flexible work hours and ability to work fully onsite at the station's Studio or Transmitter.
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to pass a background check.

Pay

The pay rate/range for this role is $30.00–$34.09 per hour, with the final offer dependent on education, skills, experience, and location.
