About the Role
The Maintenance Engineer performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties for the property, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing tasks.
Responsibilities
- Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
- Evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately; handle workplace problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving issues.
- Work closely with departments such as Housekeeping, F&B, and Front Office to resolve day-to-day operational issues.
- Perform preventive maintenance and necessary repairs on all hotel equipment, including kitchen, laundry, boiler, plumbing, pool, HVAC, electrical, public spaces, guest rooms, and PM programs.
- Manage the lights and grounds program.
- Make repairs to air conditioners—change filters, clean coils, replace blower motors, etc.
- Maintain pool and spa—clean and vacuum.
- Take chiller and water heater readings and water samples.
- Replace TVs, cable boxes, and program movie channel boxes.
- Replace light switches, receptacles, and light bulbs.
- Perform furniture repairs.
- Conduct various plumbing repairs—unclog drains, change FET washers, stems, seats, cartridges, handles, drain fittings, etc.
- Trace and repair drain and water lines.
- Repair kitchen equipment.
- Maintain repair records, boiler logs, PM logs, and emergency logs.
- Handle dangerous chemicals safely.
- Work unsupervised and as part of a team.
- Make informed decisions regarding the department and physical plant.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- At least 3 years’ practical experience in one or more technical trades (HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing, Electrical, etc.).
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in basic English.
- Valid driver’s license.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous customer service and hotel maintenance experience preferred.
- Refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing skills preferred.
- Boiler operation and maintenance skills, water treatment, and chiller operation knowledge a plus.
- Working knowledge of legal compliance with CFC/EPA/ADA/IAQ/OSHA preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work long hours when required.
- Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
- Must be able to move quickly and agilely in urgent situations.
- Ability to stand for long periods, walk long distances, bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body and arms.
- Heavy work—exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
- Ability to work under variable temperatures and noise levels.
- Ability to work outdoors/indoors, around dust, mites, chemicals, fumes, and odor hazards.
Schedule
This hotel operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Schedules are based on business levels and are subject to change.
