Essential Duties
- Parks Open and close parks and facilities as needed.
- Clean restrooms.
- Empty trash cans.
- Perform routine maintenance of park equipment such as trash cans, tables, benches, etc.
- Inspect parks and remove debris and obstructions manually.
- Mow turf using a walk behind mower.
- Edge, trim and maintain planter areas, structures and pathways.
- Remove graffiti from structures.
- Clean gutters.
- Dig trenches for irrigation systems.
- Assist in trimming trees and bushes.
- Affix fertilizers.
Street Landscaping
- Mow, edge, line trim and blow turf.
- Affix chemicals for weed control.
- Plant annuals and other landscape plants.
- Drive a truck with trailer to haul equipment and supplies.
- Affix equipment.
- Pick up litter.
Street Maintenance
- Use hand tools to dig and move material, and perform other related assignments.
- Pick up litter.
- Affix equipment.
- Assist crew with summer patching and asphalt sealing work program.
- Perform flagger duties.
- Remove and maintain roadside vegetation.
- Drive truck with trailer to haul equipment, supplies and debris.
- Affix equipment.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, And Other Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Prior experience in parks maintenance, landscape maintenance or street maintenance is desirable.
- A valid Washington State driver's license by hire date.
- Work schedule may include working on weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Satisfactory physical condition as evidenced by a City approved medical examination.
- Washington State flagging certification is desirable.
Knowledge Of
- Know park operations and maintenance procedures.
- Know work hazards and applicable safety precautions.
- Know safe usage and operation of landscape maintenance tools and equipment.
- Know requirements of maintaining tools and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
- Know safety standards and precautions.
- Know interpersonal skills using respect, tact, patience and courtesy.
- Know ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time under varying weather conditions.
- Walk for extended periods of time on uneven ground.
- Work independently in and around street right-of-ways.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Follow written and/or verbal instruction.
- Know how to climb ladders and work at heights.
- Document work performed.
- Operate hand tools, power tools and lawn maintenance equipment.
- Perform basic maintenance of equipment.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Walk, kneel, stand and crouch.
- Lift objects up to 50 pounds.
- Perform the physical demands of the work including walking, climbing, lifting heavy loads and manipulating equipment.
- Observe legal and defensive driving practices.
Requirements Of The Position
- Age: At least 18 years old.
- Prior experience: Parks maintenance or street maintenance.
- Driver's License: Valid Washington State driver's license by hire date.
- Experience Maintaining Athletic Fields, Playground Equipment, and Hardscapes: None, Less than 1 Year, 1-2 Years, More than 2 Years.
- Experience Maintaining Public Restrooms, Abating Graffiti, Repairing Vandalism, Conducting Litter Control, and Pressure Washing Structures Within a Park Setting: None, Less than 1 Year, 1-2 Years, More than 2 Years.
- Experience Maintaining Planter Areas and Shrubs with Edgers, Trimmers, Fertilizers, Pesticides, and Herbicides: None, Less than 1 Year, 1-2 Years, More than 2 Years.
- Physical Assessment and Drug Screening: Acknowledged.
- Driving Record: Satisfactory.
