Duties
- Construction, Maintenance and Rehab work on infrastructure including buildings, recreation facilities, bridges, dams, and access roads
- Trail work
- Fisheries FAS, BLS, FPA, Wildlife, and Land & Forest parking lot maintenance
- Must be competent in the use of carpentry tools and equipment
- Chainsaw and brush saw operation
- Light and heavy equipment operation
- Perform field maintenance on tools and equipment
- Boundary line maintenance
- Follow all safety standards and procedures and complete all trainings
- Manual lifting of up to 80 pounds
- Work off ladders and scaffolding
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson
- Completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*
- An equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services
- Must obtain a Class B CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no airbrake restriction
Additional Comments
- This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
- Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
- Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
- Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
- Must be able to work in remote areas.
- Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Travel may be required.
- Overtime may be required.
- Overnight travel may be required.
- Weekends and holidays may be required.
- Must be available for emergency response.
- Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
- Must obtain a Class B CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.
- Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse.
- Must be able to lift and move objects up to 80 pounds.
