About the role

The City of Richmond, Department of Public Utilities is seeking a Maintenance and Operations Supervisor, Senior to oversee a crew of approximately 6-8 maintenance employees. The position involves supervising staff, managing workflows, and performing various maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Make onsite assessments of citizens' requests and enter information into computer applications.
  • Send and receive emails, approve leave applications/timecards, and train employees on heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Direct workflow, develop schedules, maintain records, and manage inventory.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and other service providers.
  • Supervise Crew Chiefs, Equipment Operators, Pipeline Technicians, and Maintenance Workers.
  • Complete safety inspections, perform maintenance tasks, and document training.
  • Coach, develop, and evaluate crew members.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Four years of experience in the assigned area, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire.
  • Some positions may require a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Driver's License and/or a certification in a skilled trade.

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

  • Knowledge of generators, mechanics, local codes, maintenance procedures, and tools.
  • Knowledge of "Miss Utility" laws and rules, safety rules and regulations, OSHA laws and rules, and city of Richmond rules and standards.
  • Knowledge of traffic control, fire alarms and sprinkler systems, natural gas systems, water treatment and distribution systems, valves, hydrants, blow offs, meters, bypasses, and services, American Water Works Association (AWWA) industry standards, and pressure zones.
  • Skills in operating equipment and tools related to the assignment, establishing goals and objectives, problem-solving, organizing and coordinating, completing forms, and drafting/drawing.
  • Abilities to stand, walk, lift, finger, grasp, talk, see, hear, and use substantial repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers; frequently climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, lift, feel; and occasionally crawl, push, and pull.
