About the Role

River Vista Behavioral Health is a brand new, 128-bed facility located along the bluffs overlooking the San Joaquin River, providing high-quality and advanced behavioral health services to residents and visitors in the Central Valley. As part of our Plant Operations Team, the Maintenance Technician will perform a variety of tasks with minimal supervision, contributing to the upkeep and safety of the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, HVAC maintenance, and tests and inspections of physical plant equipment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance, including cleaning/changing air filters, disposing of infectious/contaminated waste, and maintaining facility grounds.
  • Remove, install, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment under supervision.
  • Perform various janitorial duties.
  • Maintain tools and materials in good condition and ensure they are stored in their proper location.
  • Follow safety precautions when handling hand/power tools and equipment, including proper lock-out and tag-out procedures.
  • Comply with infection control measures, OSHA regulations, and Safety/Risk Management Plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and risk-preventive environment.
  • Use time constructively and in an organized manner.
  • Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel, and standard policies and procedures.
  • Attend all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
  • Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance, and punctuality.
  • Support facility-wide quality and performance improvement goals and objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred; two years of technical or trade school preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of experience operating a variety of hand/power tools and equipment while ensuring proper safety precautions.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in building maintenance, basic mechanical engineering, painting/wall repair, electrical, carpentry, and plumbing.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Complete knowledge of the physical plant within two weeks of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of The Joint Commission, HCFA, OSHA regulations, patient rights standards, and all other applicable federal and state laws governing mental health care facilities.

Skills

  • Knowledge of general building maintenance and basic mechanical engineering.
  • Proficiency with various hand/power tools and equipment.
  • Understanding of risk and safety precautions, including OSHA regulations and code procedures.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze problems and situations, and communicate effectively with patients and co-workers.
  • Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work as a team player, demonstrating tact, resourcefulness, patience, and dedication.
  • Ability to accept direction, adhere to policies, and recognize the importance of adapting to various patient age groups (adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet corporate deadlines.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Physical, Mental, and Special Demands

  • Ability to work a 40-hour work week.
  • Ability to move continuously to complete job requirements.
  • Ability to operate machinery and equipment safely.
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, run, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, push, pull, and twist.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds may be required without assistance.
  • Ability to work under any weather conditions, indoors or outdoors, at any time of day or night.
  • Visual acuity for accurate reading of documents.
  • Ability to hear sound with or without correction.
  • Good hand and finger dexterity for the use of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to exert up to 80 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to respond to exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
