Mainframe Application Support Engineer
About The Role
As a Mainframe Application Support Engineer, you will make an impact by supporting and enhancing critical banking applications running on core mainframe platforms. You will be a valued member of the delivery team and collaborate with client stakeholders, subject matter experts, and global teams to ensure application stability, support production operations, and deliver business-critical solutions.
Responsibilities
- Provide production support for critical banking applications, including incident management, problem resolution, batch monitoring, and production checkout activities.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and enhance mainframe applications using COBOL, DB2, JCL, CICS, and VSAM.
- Partner directly with client SMEs to investigate complex business and technical issues and drive critical deliverables.
- Support job scheduling, application maintenance, and legacy system modernization initiatives.
- Collaborate with onsite and offshore teams to deliver high-quality support and development services.
Requirements
- 8+ years of IT experience in application development and production support within mainframe environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with COBOL, DB2, JCL, VSAM, CICS, and mainframe application support.
- Experience with incident management, problem management, batch scheduling, and production support processes.
- Proven ability to analyze legacy code, troubleshoot complex business issues, and identify sustainable solutions.
- Prior experience working in the banking or financial services industry.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with clients and cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
- Experience with CA-7, Easytrieve, SAS (Mainframe), REXX, FileAid, PANVALET, XPEDITOR, or PANAPT.
- Knowledge of Commercial and Retail Loan Processing.
- Experience working in Agile environments.
- Experience leading or mentoring offshore teams.

Pay
The annual salary for this position is between $63,000 to $99,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
Schedule
This is an onsite position requiring 5 days per week at a client location in McLean, Virginia. The working arrangements for this role are accurate as of the date of posting. This may change based on the project you’re engaged in, as well as business and client requirements.
