MAILROOM SERVICES DIRECTOR
About the role
The Department of Social Services (DSS) is part of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA focuses on reducing poverty and income inequality by offering essential benefits like Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS aims to prevent and address homelessness through various innovative strategies.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the Central Mail and Messenger Center located in HRA’s headquarters at 4 World Trade Center.
- Supervise a diverse staff of eight employees, non-city workers, and interns handling both interoffice and US mail.
- Manage and authorize payments for two HRA contracts, Newspaper Delivery Services.
- Liaise with the United States Postal Service to maintain HRA’s Business Reply Envelopes and Post Office Boxes.
- Manage the development of computer-based programs to automate various mailroom functions, creating a more efficient process and enhancing control and accessibility.
Requirements
- Minimum qualifications include a baccalaureate degree and four years of full-time, progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, with 18 months in an administrative, managerial, executive, or supervisory capacity.
- Preferred skills include supervisory experience, experience overseeing mailroom operations, strong communication and writing skills, and strong MSOffice skills in Word and Excel.
Qualifications
- Education and/or experience equivalent to the minimum qualifications, with 18 months of administrative, managerial, executive, or supervisory experience.
- Education above the high school level may be substituted for general clerical/administrative experience, but not for administrative, managerial, executive, or supervisory experience.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, with standard working hours.
