Machinist III

About the role

As a level three machinist, you specialize in the operation of precision CNC machining and/or gear cutting equipment. Your focus is on producing high-quality, detailed work based on established standards, guidelines, and procedures. Precise, consistent work output is essential, requiring patience and a willingness to handle and complete one task at a time. The environment promotes steady, methodical work to ensure routines are completed on time and error-free.

Responsibilities

• Operate multiple CNC machines simultaneously as required
• Interpret written instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading
• Perform a variety of turning operations with aluminum, cast iron, and steel materials to specified tolerances
• Use a variety of hand tools and precision measuring instruments
• Assure parts produced comply with company quality standards by monitoring production, following inspection procedures, measuring dimensions, and identifying variances
• Perform machine setups and tool changes
• Make standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds of machining
• Partially dismantle machines and perform minor maintenance work
• Lift and move heavy objects
• Inspect finished parts
• Complete work orders and report labor hours worked
• Recommend process changes to optimize production and improve quality
• Keep the work area clean and orderly
• Communicate production status to supervisors and shift personnel to ensure problems and schedules are understood
• Contribute to cost reductions and productivity improvements

Requirements

• Prefer one (1) year of CNC training in an accredited vocational institute and three (3) years of machining experience
• Ability to interpret written instructions and specifications
• Good mechanical and mathematical aptitude
• Ability to read and comprehend detailed drawings, sketches, notes, and blueprints
• Knowledge of metric dimensions
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Self-motivated with a strong desire to succeed
• Flexibility to adapt to changing conditions and job assignments
• Ability to work well with others
• Experience in performing setups and tool changes
• Experience in finished parts inspection using various precision measurement tools
• Must be able to provide own basic inspection and hand tools
