About the Role

This role focuses on operating computer or mechanically controlled machines to produce and repair metal parts for manufacturing. You will analyze engineering specifications or blueprints to define dimensions and features of metal parts, determine optimal tool paths, select appropriate machine tools, and manually set up or adjust equipment.

This position requires basic analytical or scientific skills and adherence to standard operating procedures with close supervision. It involves performing manual tasks according to established procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, repair, and fabricate parts or components by operating mechanical equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and design sketches to determine precise specifications, dimensions, and tolerance levels.
  • Select and operate appropriate tools to cut, shape, or finish metal, plastic, or composite materials.
  • Set up, service, and maintain equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to verify the accuracy and quality of machined parts.
  • Assemble parts into sub-units or complete units as necessary.

Requirements

  • Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 1-2 years' experience OR equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in a technical discipline.
  • Technical training preferred.
  • Skills in mathematical reasoning, technical expertise, attention to detail, equipment maintenance, GD&T, machine operation, programming, manufacturing, milling, numerical control, precision machining, precision measurement, reading blueprints/diagrams, safety policies, and mechanical maintenance.

Physical Requirements

  • Regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • May require standing for long periods.
  • Work may involve indoor/outdoor environments with exposure to climate changes and machinery operation.
  • May require working different shifts or outside normal business hours.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position.

Travel Requirements

No or very little travel is expected for this role.

Pay

Pay range: $51,000 – $69,000 annually. Individual pay is determined by work location, job-related skills, experience, internal equity, and relevant education or training.
