About the role
Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the Machinist sets up, operates, and maintains a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, blueprints, and quality control standards.
Responsibilities
- Install and align machine accessories (cutting tools, work positioners, plates, fixtures, shields) using hand tools and measuring instruments
- Operate CNC machining centers to meet desired specifications
- Run proven machine tool programs with minimal supervision
- Manipulate machine controls (buttons, switches, dials, levers, pedals) to regulate and adjust cutting speed and feeds
- Measure dimensions of finished parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, or check fixtures
- Trim, sand, and drill parts using shop equipment
- Perform daily/weekly operator maintenance on machine equipment/tools
- Accurately execute Company Process Control (PC) instructions and provide feedback when revisions are needed
- Document actions by completing production and quality logs
- Actively explore opportunities to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC)
- Train others by openly sharing information, knowledge, and expertise with the team
- Complete job assignments as directed by Manufacturing Manager
- Attend meetings, trainings, and participate in audits as directed
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
- Comply with all company rules, including safety policies and federal/state/local regulations
- Use personal protective equipment as required
- Report all unsafe conditions, accidents, and injuries immediately to management
- Actively participate in 6S and lean activities
- Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements
- Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and needs
- Store and maintain tools, equipment, and gauges as defined by company standards
- Keep work area clean and organized to company standards
- Perform daily cleaning and sweeping of work area, tools, and equipment
- Empty trash and waste as needed
- Remove personal items from workstations
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum 1-year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with G code interpreting
- Ability to read and understand blueprint requirements and interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
- Forklift experience preferred
- Reliable transportation
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage time, multi-task, and pay close attention to details
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Capable of following directions and taking responsibility for production efficiency and quality
- Demonstrate customer focus by responding to the needs of internal and external customers
- Maintain a positive attitude and communicate openly and honestly
- Solve problems proactively and contribute to continuous improvement
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods
- Comfortable working in environments with noise, heat, or dust
- Regularly required to move, sit, and bend for various hours throughout the day
