About the role

The Machinist plays a crucial role in Voyant Beauty, contributing to the manufacturing and prototyping of beauty, personal, and home care products. They are responsible for setting up and operating both manual and CNC/NC machine tools, ensuring that all customer and company product requirements are met through precise machining techniques. Additionally, they fabricate repair parts for filling and packaging equipment, inspect and measure components, maintain documentation, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual machining operations, including setup and tool selection on conventional lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, and other standard shop equipment.
  • Set up and operate CNC machines, adjusting as needed to ensure precision and quality.
  • Fabricate repair parts for filling and packaging equipment using machining, instrumentation, and hand tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and written instructions to duplicate or design equipment parts.
  • Inspect, measure, test, and de-burr manufactured components and assemblies to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Maintain documentation of quality checks.
  • Perform or assist in scheduled preventative maintenance activities on machines and shop equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with cGMPs, SOPs, and safety protocols, including proper use of PPE.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement team meetings, work with Engineering staff or customers to resolve product issues, and contribute to process optimization.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area following 5S principles.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action planning for recurring mechanical issues.
  • Oversee and implement complex repairs and equipment modifications.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to maintenance and production personnel as needed.
  • Order parts and support equipment as needed.
  • Assist with troubleshooting machine-related issues and work closely with production line mechanics and leads.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve machining processes.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate's Degree Technical Degree in Machining, Manufacturing, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: 1-3 years of machining experience, including manual and CNC equipment in a manufacturing environment.

  • Manual and CNC machine operations (High proficiency)
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics (High proficiency)
  • Precision measuring tools usage (High proficiency)
  • Use of hand tools, sharpening/cutting tools, and other shop equipment (High proficiency)
  • Mathematical aptitude (measurements, calculations) (High proficiency)
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions (High proficiency)
  • Verbal and written communication skills (Medium proficiency)
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving (Medium proficiency)
  • Knowledge of cGMPs and SOPs (Medium proficiency)
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD software (Autodesk Products) (Medium proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Forklift or willingness to obtain (Preferred)
