ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Applies the principles of metal cutting to work pieces and cutting tools.
  • Calculates geometrical and operation-related values necessary to the trade.
  • Reads and uses mechanical component and assembly drawings.
  • Interprets and uses trade related reference charts and tables.
  • Accurately uses and records measurements with precision measuring devices.
  • Adjusts feeds and speeds to improve quality and achieve maximum efficiency with minimal tool wear.
  • Uses knowledge of G and M codes to write CNC programs.
  • Practices general shop safety and 5S practices.
  • Confers with engineers to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Develops fixtures and tooling without assistance.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Abilities

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Frequently walks, reaches with hands and arms, and talks or hears.
  • Occasionally sits; climbs or balance; stoops, kneels, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
