About the role

SMS group is an industrial equipment manufacturer for the steel industry. We design, build, and service equipment for steel plants across the globe with a strong technical services/machine shop network in North America.

Responsibilities

• Perform set-ups and operations on various machines such as:
  • CNC Horizontal Mills (Heidenhain Control)
  • CNC Vertical Mills (Fanuc Control)
  • CNC Vertical Lathe (Siemens Control)
  • CNC Horizontal Lathe (Siemens Control)
  • CNC Horizontal Lathe (Fanuc Control)
  • Manual Vertical Mill (Bridgeport)
  • Manual Vertical Lathe (6 Foot)
  • Manual Horizontal Mill (Supermill)
  • Horizontal Lathe (Poreba)
• Use measuring devices such as:
  • Tape Measure
  • Inside/Outside Mics
  • Calipers
  • Depth Mics
• Read and understand blueprints
• Perform calculations and problem-solving tasks
• Work collaboratively with team members
• Follow safety protocols and report hazards
• Operate fork trucks and cranes safely
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning tasks

Requirements

• At least 5 years of machining experience, including both manual and CNC operations
• Experience with vertical and horizontal lathes
• Knowledge of measuring devices and their proper use
• Strong mathematical skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Good physical condition to perform heavy lifting and operating machinery

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license

• Proficiency with CNC and manual machining tools
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints
• Strong attention to detail
• Effective communication and teamwork skills
• Safe working practices
