Machinist

About the role

This is a second-shift position for an experienced machinist who can work independently and operate a variety of machines.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, the best sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
• Safely set up and operate the correct machine for the job, including selecting, aligning, and securing fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, grinders, and shapers.
• Double-check dimensions to ensure the part will clean up to size and for errors.
• Run the part or parts, ensuring the highest level of quality at the lowest possible cost.
• Perform all assigned preventive maintenance on machines and clean according to procedures.
• Act as a technical resource to other machinists and departments to address and resolve inquiries and problems.
• Obtain, move, or store parts to the next area of operations.
• Recommend methods or processes that will ensure continuous improvement of productivity and quality while reducing costs.
• Operate torching equipment and prepare reports and documents.

Requirements

• Experience with some of the following: manual machines, conversational programming, program editing, short-run set-up, troubleshooting, live tooling, and experience working with various metals and alloys.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
• Frequently required to walk.
• Occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 25 pounds.
• Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Requires the use of safety glasses and shoes, hearing protection, dust masks, gloves, and face shields if needed.
