Machinist

About the role

The Bay Area News Group is seeking an experienced Machinist to join their team at the Concord facility. The role involves monitoring and troubleshooting newspaper production equipment, performing repairs and maintenance, and adhering to deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and troubleshoot newspaper production equipment during operation to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement
• Repair faulty equipment or systems
• Work with chemicals to clean and prepare machinery for repairs and machining
• Perform basic repairs and maintenance offline, and emergency repairs under deadline pressure
• Clean up tasks on press, warehouse, auxiliary equipment as necessary, including daily, weekly and monthly preventive maintenance tasks
• Operate electronic or mechanical devices including unit control panels, advanced press control systems, calibration equipment, precision measuring equipment, basic hand tools, variety of machine shop tools, PCs and database program entry, and forklift/clamp truck
• Work night, weekend and holiday shifts as required; regular and reliable attendance is a necessary element of this job

Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with multiple levels of management and across teams
• Comfortable working with PC’s and computer driven equipment
• Manage multiple tasks simultaneously with excellent time management skills
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; post secondary schooling in mechanics and/or machining is desired
• Minimum of two years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic or Machinist on production equipment required

Qualifications

• Routine use of forklifts, ladders, tools, and industrial equipment, as well as standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers
• This is not a remote position. The employee will report to our Concord, CA printing plant

Benefits & Compensation

The hourly range is $28.00 - $31.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility).

Work Environment

The printing plant environment is well-lit. Working areas may be tight, small and below machinery. Exposure to chemicals, loud noise, dust, and moving parts, requiring strict adherence to safety practices and use of appropriate PPE. Routine use of forklifts, ladders, tools, and industrial equipment, as well as standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. This is not a remote position.
