General Description
We are looking for a Manual Machinist to operate various Milling Machines, Drill Presses and Lathes. Position reports to the Operations Manager.
Responsibilities
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, vertical boring mill, horizontal boring mill.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, Vernier calipers.
- Measure, examine, and test completed parts to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
- Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to display placement of cuts.
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
- Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
- Check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
- Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
- Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
Physical and Mental Qualifications
- Requires ability to work in a manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels, dust, dirt, fumes, welding machines, heavy duty magnets and manual/remote controlled devices using radio signals.
- Physical demands: Sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, kneel, stoop, crouch, climb, grasp, ascend/descend stairs and ladders, maneuver within tight spaces, routinely lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must have visual acuity, excellent mobility, good hearing, manual dexterity, good balance, ability to endure long hours, excellent problem solving skills, and wear required personal protective equipment.
