About Zenix Aerospace Jet Products

Zenix Aerospace Jet Products uses its own near net shape starting blanks with sizes ranging from 2″ to 180″ diameter. Applications include turbine engine parts, nacelle mounting and attach rings, and duct fittings. The facility produces complex machined rings and ring components in titanium, nickel, cobalt, stainless, and aluminum alloys. Major markets for current production are airframe structural rings and assemblies, including the nacelle and thrust reverser, and a variety of rings and cases for turbine engines.

About the Role

The Machinist Apprentice I develops an understanding of the setup and operation of conventional and/or computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines. This role provides hands-on experience to fit and assemble parts in a manufacturing environment, make adjustments to adhere to established specifications, and monitor work and machining processes under the guidance of a mentor.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate understanding of set-ups, adjustments, and operations of conventional and/or computer-controlled machines to produce precision metal parts as specified by work orders, blueprints, drawings, templates, or layouts.
• Determine specifications or procedures for tooling requirements, setup procedures, machine operation, work-piece dimensions, or numerical control sequences using blueprints, instructions, and machine knowledge.
• Develop knowledge of mounting, aligning, and securing tooling, attachments, and work-pieces on machine chucks.
• Understand starting and stopping during automatic operation of numerical control machine parts or test setups, work-piece dimensions, or programming.
• Learn to adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if the machine malfunctions.
• Monitor and maintain machines during use to diagnose malfunctions and determine needs for adjustments or repairs.
• Perform routine machine maintenance.
• Ensure proper dimensions of finished material to confirm conformance to specifications.
• Clean machine, tooling, parts, and surrounding area in accordance with 5S procedures.
• Appear for work on time, follow directions from supervisors, interact well with co-workers, and adhere to work rules and corporate policies.
• Communicate regularly with an assigned mentor regarding training progress.
• Shadow a subject matter expert each month related to a specific core competency.
• Exhibit strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
• Complete all trainings and assignments as designated during the apprenticeship program and pass all required coursework by achieving minimum acceptable standards.
• Maintain a training record of completed competencies, signed off by a mentor/trainer.
• Adhere to all safety and maintenance procedures.

Requirements

• Ability to read blueprints, drawings, or templates.
• Ability to perform basic shop math including fractions, decimals, and various units of measure.
• Knowledge of machines and tools.
• Ability to control operations of equipment and monitor gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure proper machine function.
• Ability to move, install, position, and handle materials.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Vocational or Trade School experience preferred.
• 1 year of related work experience in a manufacturing environment or completion of Vocational/Trade School with CNC practicum.
