About the role
The Machinist A is responsible for producing precision components by setting up and operating a variety of machines in support of manufacturing requirements. This role applies advanced machining knowledge to meet quality, safety, delivery, and productivity expectations while following established procedures and engineering specifications. The role additionally involves maintaining safe and efficient work practices.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate machining equipment to produce parts that meet drawings and quality requirements.
- Interpret blueprints, routings, work instructions, and specifications (including GD&T).
- Select, install, and adjust tooling, work-holding, and fixtures to achieve required tolerances.
- Perform inspections using appropriate gaging; document results as required.
- Maintain product quality by following control plans, inspection plans, and nonconformance procedures.
- Follow all safety and environmental requirements, including proper PPE use and lockout/tagout.
- Complete basic preventative maintenance like adding coolant, replacing filter paper, and cleaning equipment.
- Maintain and clean the work area.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and support the team by identifying opportunities to reduce scrap, rework, cycle time, and setup time.
Requirements
- 2+ years of related manufacturing experience.
- High-school diploma or equivalent.
- Learn to read and follow blueprints, specifications, and verbal instructions.
- Basic knowledge of mathematics.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of computers, software, and CNC controls.
- Ability to maintain focus, pace, and accuracy in a production environment.
- Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot machining and quality issues.
- Able to perform work requiring precision, judgment, and sustained attention to detail.
- Effective communication and coordination with cross-functional team members.
- Able to follow safety policies, quality requirements, and standard operating procedures.
- Regular attendance.
Qualifications
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, reaching, grasping, and fine motor manipulation.
- Routine lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs as needed (with assistance or mechanical aid when appropriate).
- Safety and environmental requirements, including proper PPE use and lockout/tagout.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
