Machinist - 2nd Shift

About the role

Eaton’s IS AER FED division is seeking a Machinist - 2nd Shift for its Rumford, RI facility. The position operates on a 2nd shift schedule of 3 pm – 11 pm, Monday through Friday. The hourly rate is $36.34 per hour plus a $0.60 per hour shift premium (salary shown as a guideline; actual pay based on skills, experience, qualifications, market and business considerations). The Rumford, RI location is unionized; there is a 60‑day probationary period after which the employee becomes a union member and begins paying union dues.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC and manual machining equipment (Okuma CNC lathes, conventional and programmable CMMs, ovens/freezers for heat treatment) to produce precision components.
• Mark components using dot peen, ink stamp, electro‑etch, vibro‑peen, and laser methods.
• Use chucks, fixtures, parallels, and blocks for alignment; select speeds and feeds per material and finish; maintain close tolerances.
• Locate fixtures and work pieces relative to reference surfaces; perform in‑place final machining of fixtures.
• Work from blueprints, methods sheets, set up sheets, and verbal instructions to achieve tolerances as close as .0001”.
• Perform bench work (filing, fitting, deburring, etc.).
• Set up and use measurement instruments: micrometers, verniers, comparators, monochromatic light, Sunnen gauges, dial indicators, protractor, air gages, bore gages, Jo blocks, etc.
• Run one or more machines for continuous production flow.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives: work with engineers to develop and recommend new processes, improve quality, productivity, lower cost, improve service.
• Complete measurement and verification of own work after setup and first‑piece check by Group Leader or Supervisor.
• Move parts as needed to maintain production flow; report faulty operation, defective material, unusual conditions to supervisors.
• Maintain work area, tools, and equipment per 5S, safety, and department standards; perform daily checklists.
• Observe safety precautions, company rules, and regulations.
• Plan and perform manual operations: drilling, turning, milling, grinding, reaming, tapping, spotfacing, threading, broaching, sanding, sawing, filing, burring, pinning, polishing, cleaning, modifying component parts.
• Make jaws, tooling, and fixtures as directed; replace dull or broken tools.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution.
• Completion of a Machinist or Tool & Die program from an accredited institution OR equivalent working experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in CNC Turning or Milling.

Qualifications
