Machinist 2/3 - 1st Shift

About the role
As a Machinist Level 2 or 3 located in Commerce, CA, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. This position is on 1st shift - 5:00am - 2:30pm (9/80 schedule).
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate Horizontal HAAS, DMG Mori lathe, and 5-axis DMG Mori milling machines.
- Determine sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup.
- Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, and machining parameters; interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining.
- Fit and assemble precision parts into mechanical equipment and determine material, parts, and equipment required.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
- Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to display placement of cuts.
- Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and determine need for adjustments or repairs.
- Check workpieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
- Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
- Support and implement new, customer-focused processes in accordance with lean principles and practices.
- Provide training and coaching to improve standard work, work center organization (5S), and housekeeping.
- Actively provide change leadership as required.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications for Level 2
- High school diploma or GED and 2 years of additional education and/or related experience. 4 additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
- CNC 5-axis machining experience required.
- Experience with composite, honeycomb, and aluminum materials, forging, and all hard metals such as stainless steel and titanium.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, production specifications, production diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications.
- Experience with GD&T.
- Experience in following written set-up instructions and/or performing unique set-ups.
- Experience in complex measurements and advanced shop math calculations relative to tolerances, dimensions, tooling, and feeds and speeds.
- Experience running machines and setup.
Basic Qualifications for Level 3
- High school diploma or GED and 4 years of additional education and/or related experience. 4 additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
- CNC 5-axis machining experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or Trade School certification with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Experience with HAAS GM2 5-Axis Controller.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve unforeseen, unique issues as they arise in machining a part.
- Ability to understand verbal and written work instructions with knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and disciplines.
- Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and weekends as needed.
Pay
Primary Level Salary Range: $51,400.00 - $85,600.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $61,100.00 - $101,800.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
