Machinist 3 - 2nd Shift

About the role
As a Machinist Level 3 located in Commerce, CA, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. This position is on 2nd shift (2:15pm – 11:45pm) with a 9/80 schedule.
Responsibilities
- Set up and run multiple production machines (5-Axis CNC mills, Lathes).
- Execute advanced milling operations such as compound angle cuts, contouring, boring angular holes, helical and spiral milling, serrating, cutting gears, splines, honing, and keyways.
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; use hand tools and precision measuring instruments; perform standard shop calculations; and mark out stock material for machining.
- Perform machine operations (including reworking parts) such as cutting, shaping, deburring, forming, drilling, and reaming parts.
- Perform machine operations where the materials, tooling, and sequence of operations have been pre-planned and established.
- Make necessary machine adjustments and report improper machine functioning or cutting action for correction.
- Align and fasten work using standard fixtures and established methods.
- Install and adjust cutting tools consistent with type and size of material being machined.
- Follow established manufacturing methods using standard production machines, materials, and tooling.
- Adjust feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to machine quality parts, per documentation.
- Inspect parts for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as gages, calipers, micrometers, and comparators.
- Routinely maintain equipment to ensure cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability specific to division requirements.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and 4 years of additional education and/or related experience. Alternatively, 4 additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- CNC 5-axis machining experience required.
- Experience with composite, honeycomb, and aluminum materials, forging, and all hard metals such as stainless steel and titanium.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, production specifications, production diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications.
- Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Experience in following written set-up instructions and/or performing unique set-ups.
- Experience in complex measurements and advanced shop math calculations relative to tolerances, dimensions, tooling, and feeds and speeds.
- Experience running machines and setup.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or Trade School certification with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Experience with HAAS GM2 5-Axis Controller.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve unforeseen, unique issues as they arise in machining a part.
- Ability to understand verbal and written work instructions with knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and disciplines.
- Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and weekends as needed.
Pay
Primary level salary range: $61,100.00 – $101,800.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
