About the role
Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Machine Tech V, Multi Spindle Screw Machine operator for the 2nd shift located in Fullerton, CA. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California, holding the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems and the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found on aircraft and aerospace engines, as well as industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment.
Responsibilities
- Sets up and operates multiple spindle automatic screw machines; makes minor adjustments to the process or machine after tasks are assigned.
- Operates various standard and specialized machines to precision tolerance and maintains set-ups completed by others.
- Performs adjustments and tool changes; operates one or more machines according to crew size called out on work order.
- Performs typical operations such as loading parts/material into bins, hoppers and feeders; removing finished parts; operating switches, pedals, and levers; uses standard gauges to check parts.
- Observes operations for malfunction or improper processing; corrects or reports as needed.
- Performs related tasks in assigned departments such as assembling, drilling, deburring, sorting, counting, etching, stamping, recording of parts processed, and housekeeping.
- Checks multiple operations on a part, including O.D., I.D., overall height, thread gauging, perpendicularity gauge, etc.
- Reads micrometers, indicators, plug gauges, and thread gauges; reads work order routers and related blueprints; sets up and maintains S.P.C. charts.
- Works from orders, screw machine part prints, and screw machine layouts.
- Assists factory supervision and leaders in training machine operators.
- Keeps work area clean, safe, and orderly on a daily basis.
- Performs other tasks of equal or lesser skill as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred; or five or more years related experience and/or training as a Screw Machine Set Up Operator; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills
- Language: Ability to read and interpret English documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; complete routine documentation; speak clearly and effectively with managers, supervisors and coworkers.
- Mathematical: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Reasoning: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Computer: Knowledge of Syteline Manufacturing software.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently required to stand and sit.
- Occasionally required to walk and talk or hear.
- Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts in a usually loud environment; hearing protection is required.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $24.70–$41.99.
