Machining Tech II - 2nd Shift

About the role

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Machine Tech II – 2nd Shift for our Fullerton, CA location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California, and holds the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems and the North American leadership in commercial transportation fasteners.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains, after set-up by others, standard or specialized production machines including but not limited to tappers, drillers, crimp presses, and related equipment.
• Held to established production and quality standards; makes minor adjustments to process or machines after tasks are assigned.
• Operates one or more machines according to crew size called out on work order.
• Performs typical operations such as loading parts/material into bins, hoppers and feeders; removing finished parts; operating switches, pedals, and levers; using standard gauges to check parts.
• Observes operations for malfunction or improper processing; corrects or reports as needed; stops the process and contacts supervisor if the malfunction cannot be corrected.
• Performs related tasks such as assembling, drilling, deburring, sorting, counting, etching, stamping, recording of parts processed, and housekeeping.
• Checks multiple operations on a part, including O.D., I.D., overall height, thread gauging, perpendicularity gauge, etc.
• Reads micrometers, indicators, plug gauges, and thread gauges; reads work order routers and related blueprints; sets up and maintains S.P.C. charts.
• Understands cutting tools, drills and taps; performs required S.P.C. to establish machine capability for all machines in the department.
• Responsible for submitting “first article” to print; assists factory supervision and leaders in training of machine operators.
• Lifts and/or transports parts weighing up to 30 lbs.
• Keeps work area clean, safe and orderly on a daily basis.

Qualifications

• Willing to learn or have a working knowledge of manufacturing and quality processes and principles.
• One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Prior machining experience.
• Ability to read/interpret part drawings and use quality tools (calipers, mics, comparators).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Understanding of the speeds and feeds pertaining to the machine being operated.
• Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs (may not exceed per EHS policies).
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
• Frequently required to stand and sit; occasionally required to walk and talk or hear.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; noise level is usually moderate but may be occasionally loud enough where hearing protection is required.

Schedule

Work hours are 5 days, 8 hours per day, with overtime to meet the demands of the job.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $18.26 to $30.49.
