About the role
The Machine Shop Tool Room Manager oversees all tool room operations, ensuring tools, materials, and equipment are available, maintained, and managed efficiently to support production schedules and operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full lifecycle of tool inventory, including forecasting, procurement requests, stocking levels, and replenishment strategies
- Establish and maintain min/max levels based on production schedules, historical usage, and upcoming programs
- Cook with and coordinate with Purchasing and vendors to ensure timely availability of tools, consumables, and specialty equipment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient tool room environment that supports 5S and lean manufacturing principles
- Communicate effectively with machine operators, supervisors, engineering, and production teams to anticipate tool needs and resolve issues
- Facilitate conflict resolution related to tool availability, tool condition, or workflow disruptions
- Represent the tool crib function in meetings, planning sessions, and process improvement initiatives
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; additional technical training preferred
- Three or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a machine shop or tool room setting
- Strong knowledge of machine tools, mills, cutting tools, and industrial equipment
- Demonstrated experience with tool inventory management systems and data-driven decision-making
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Able to lift and carry tools and materials up to 50 lbs
- Safety-oriented with a solid understanding of shop safety practices
- Willing and able to obtain government-issued security clearance
Qualifications
- Due to ITAR and EAR regulations, applicants must be a US Citizen or of Legal Permanent Resident Status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b (a) (3)
- This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required)
- Janicki will assist with gaining this access once employed
- Special Access Program or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position and requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program
Skills
