Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Embraces and advances Medbio’s Mission, Vision and Values while fostering a team-first, positive culture.
- Exhibits & Leads safety awareness and safe work practices in all tooling areas.
- Maintain an orderly and clean toolroom.
- Operation of general toolroom equipment such as Bridgeport mills, surface grinders, manual lathers, TIG/MIG/laser welders and other shop equipment.
- Provide input on tool design.
- Participate with the Tooling Engineer(s) in the launching of new tools per the Medbio Tooling Standards document.
- Participate in tool sampling and create Tool Service procedure when applicable.
- Maintain tooling database which includes, but is not limited to, all tool information and all repairs and tool modifications.
- Educate tool shops on Medbio’s tooling standards and continue to enforce those standards.
- Trouble-shoot tooling issues on the production floor. (I.e., scrap reduction, cycle time improvement, tooling uptime/downtime, etc.).
- Create standard tool PM templates.
- Manage the work-load and weekly hours worked in the tool room.
- Cookordinate tooling repairs with suppliers and ensure repairs are made correctly and efficiently.
- Develop Medbio’s internal tooling maintenance and tool build capabilities.
- Set up spare tooling and Kanban systems for spare tooling.
- Assess and develop existing and new tool shop relationships.
- Lead maintenance and repair/cleaning activities on Medbio tools through use of IQMS.
- Lead the tool room employees.
Organizational Relationships
- The Tool Room Manager reports to the Plant Manager.
- This position works closely with other Engineers, coordinates with Quality Assurance and Production tooling activities, and provides project-specific information to Finance, Sales, and Operations as necessary.
Experience and/or Educational Requirements
- Minimum of Tooling Docs Toolroom Maintenance Manager course.
- (Prefer) 8+ years’ experience in plastic injection molding.
- Good understanding of automation systems and equipment.
- Proficient computer skills (SpinFire, Microsoft Office, MS Project).
- Strong product and tool ‘blueprint’ reading skills.
- Strong written/verbal communication skills.
- Good understanding of ISO and FDA regulations and GMPs.
- Journeyman accreditation preference.

- Must be able to work and perform what would be considered standard practices for this type of position in the industry.
