Position Overview
The person in this position will provide assistance to the staff in the Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop during the week as needed and open and close the machine shop during off hours. Hours expected to work are flexible during the workday and within the time frame of Tuesdays 6-10 PM, Thursdays 6-10 PM, and Saturdays 9 AM - 3 PM.
Job Description
- Aid and maintain safe use of equipment in the machine shop.
- Meet with supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- Current KU undergraduate or graduate student.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the machine shop either through ME307 or previous job experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current KU Mechanical Engineering student.
Position Requirements
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours.
- For summer periods, the student hourly must:
- Have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester.
- Be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours.
- Be enrolled in summer session.
- Be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
- Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.
Employment Conditions
- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non-exempt position.
- A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
