Position Summary
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Machine Operator Lead ensures safe operations begin and end at the scheduled times and jobs are completed safely within the allocated time frame for a designated work. This position will immediately escalate any employee issues including, but not limited to Safety, Food Safety, Quality, Efficiency, and Productivity. Safe operation includes troubleshooting and adjusting to meet product specification.
Position Responsibilities
- Ensure and verify equipment is ready for production before the start of every shift.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by leading by example and assisting the Operations Manager in monitoring established standards, critical control points, equipment, and resources.
- Adhere to, train and help enforce a zero-harm culture, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), Environmental, Quality and Health practices.
- Work with team members to ensure production information is accurate and consistent with procedures and policies before entry into production tracking systems.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance is adhered to as outlined in Food Safety Plan and other quality Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure all parts and aspects of production are correct – machine settings, augers, formers, seals, oxygen levels, etc.
- Ensure strict quality standards including seal integrity and residual oxygen levels. Pull product samples as required and perform quality inspections on the product and packaging, as necessary.
- Aids in training new hires and the development of production employees, once certified.
- Aids in communicating all problems with the packaging line (maintenance, downtime, etc.) or personnel to the supervision.
Position Requirements
- High School Diploma or state issued equivalency certificate is required.
- One (1) year manufacturing experience and with a proven record that displays the ability to lead and supervise preferably in the food industry.
- Ability to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting machinery, with strong understanding of mechanical systems is required.
- Ability to understand written and verbal communication, follow instructions thoroughly, ask questions if necessary, be engaged in the work, and be a partner in producing the finest ofi products.
- Follow established programs, policies, and practices, and work safely to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements.
- Capability to stand for long periods and handle physical tasks associated with machine operator is required.
- Ability to pick-up and carry products up to 50 pounds unassisted. Ability to use full range of motion to bend, stretch, kneel, squat, climb stairs/ladder is required.
- Work in a light industrial and somewhat warm environment (during summer) or cool areas (during the winter).
- Must possess basic reading, writing and mathematical skills. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work well with others. Have ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and comply with all safety policies and requirements.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
