MACHINE OPERATOR IV

About the Role

Responsible for providing technical support for the set-up, operation, and product changeover of CNC mills and lathes.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the ongoing development and manufacturing process of existing and new products.
• Assists Engineering in creating new and modifying existing tooling and gauges.
• Assists Machine Operators in troubleshooting and offset adjustments prior to Engineering assistance.
• Performs setups for CNC machine operations including fixture alignment, tool setting, and offset loading.
• Conducts training of personnel in CNC machine operation, tool setting, fixture setups, and part inspection.
• Troubleshoots problems that may arise and develops workable solutions.
• Sets up product changeovers.
• Uses jog control and MPG (Manual Pulse Generator).
• Inspects, replaces, and sets tooling.
• Loads and unloads fixtures.
• Performs basic routine maintenance functions on equipment.
• Inspects own work using go and no-go gauges to ensure few or no mistakes are made in the assembly of the product.
• Communicates with supervisor, engineers, production control, quality, and other manufacturing personnel for assignments and to resolve quality issues.
• Produces the required quantity of parts and/or product to meet established daily goals.
• Utilizes the company ERP system to track product through the production line.
• Maintains a sound working knowledge and application of firearms safety.
• Completes all required paperwork timely and accurately.
• Adheres to all employment policies, safety policies, and practices required by law and established by the Company.
• Wears all necessary Personal Protective Equipment as directed by the Company.
• Immediately reports any maintenance and/or safety issues to the supervisor.
• Demonstrates a positive attitude towards co-workers, other departments, and the Company.
• Maintains respect, courtesy, and professionalism towards all co-workers and the Company.
• Actively participates and supports the 5S process by maintaining a clean workstation and department.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Knowledge Required

• Read and interpret drawings to determine dimensions of critical features and confirm accurate finished workpieces.
• Working knowledge of firearms production, tooling, and gauges.
• Proven knowledge of drafting standards and tolerances.
• Experience using inspection equipment and tools.
• General maintenance aptitude.
• General computer skills and familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to follow all established environmental safety protocols required by OSHA, federal and state agencies, and the Company.
• Ability to interact effectively with a variety of people.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow directions, organize, and prioritize.
• General mechanical ability.
• Knowledge of and experience with hand tools.
• Ability to use precision measuring instruments, including calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gauges, indicators, and scales.
• Ability to use tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various CNC machines.
• Ability to accept and follow directions.

Working Conditions

Work is normally performed throughout a heated manufacturing and warehouse facility. Exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes, and gases is very limited. The noise level is moderate and includes sounds of light manufacturing, shipping and receiving, and normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc.). No known environmental hazards are encountered in the normal performance of job duties.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs. and ask for assistance if necessary.
• Ability to lift, push, and pull objects as necessary.
• Ability to stand and walk throughout the workday.
• Occasionally required to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
