Machine Operator III (Assistant Press Operator)

This role supports continuous press operations by managing unwind and rewind processes, ensuring quality control, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities

• Mount rolls on unwind machine and ensure adequate roll stock for continuous operation.
• Stock the unwind area with appropriate supplies for the next shift.
• Ensure unwind and rewind splicers are always ready to make a splice.
• Fill out View report and Paper Reject Form correctly.
• Assist Second Press Operator with register, ink viscosity, pH, and color adjustments as needed.
• Clean and rebuild doctor blades or heads.
• Use a paper caliper to check each roll for correct thickness.
• Sweep and mop press area and empty trash daily.
• Employ proper use of safety equipment.
• Verify pools, agent samples, and test rolls are labeled correctly.
• Stage cores and supplies for the next shift at the rewind station.
• Operate the rewind unit, pull required product samples for press inspection, QA, and Security Lab, and label samples with proper data.
• Assist Pressmen with quality inspections of press samples, fanfolds, and perf quality.
• Set up the RTM system and mark product on the RTM panel within the RTM office station.
• Operate and use the LVS system.
• Perform makeready duties: changing anilox cylinders, plate cylinders, ink chambers, setting up unwind with correct paper, and rewind with proper cores.
• Maintain 5S standards in the press area.
• Train and mentor the Press Ink Technician.
• Train on the next-level press position to allow for temporary or permanent advancement.
• Understand Anilox specifications and care.
• Perform any other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Mechanical and technical aptitude.
• Good, clear verbal and written communication skills to coordinate press operations.
• Able to lift 75 pounds.
• Ability to comprehend specific manuals.
• Ability to work independently and with diverse groups of people.
• Effective decision-making, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
• Physically agile with the ability to push/pull 500+ pounds.
• Desire to train for promotion to the next position.
• Gain strong credibility with team members and department supervisors, even under negative circumstances.

Skills

• English language proficiency.
• Understanding of Anilox specifications and care.
• Experience with RTM and LVS systems.
