About the Role

The Machine Operator I operates all facets of their assigned workstation to produce jobs with the highest degree of quality and timeliness. This role may participate in job setup and machine configuration while serving as the core operator throughout the production lifecycle. A commitment to quality, on-time delivery, and continuous improvement is paramount.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following standards, procedures, and legal regulations, including 5S methodology and other manufacturing principles.
• Learns and understands machine operations, standards, and manufacturing practices to run efficient production cycles under supervision, following job specifications.
• Reviews work orders/production schedules to determine specifications, such as materials, cutting lines, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Tests and adjusts machine controls to regulate speeds and actions, ensuring proper functionality.
• Installs, aligns, and locks punches, dies, cutting blades, or other fixtures in machines using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, and hand tools (initially under supervision).
• Monitors machine operation during production runs and records operational data.
• Measures completed and in-process workpieces to verify conformance to standards using calipers, micrometers, templates, or rulers.
• Performs quality checks on completed workpieces, examining for defects and making corrections as needed (e.g., damaged edges or disfigured surfaces).
• Proactively learns and performs machine maintenance, upkeep, cleaning, and lubrication.
• Maintains acceptable productivity standards while minimizing raw material waste.
• Performs other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (Required).
• Strong English reading, writing, and oral communication abilities (Required).
• 0-2 years’ experience operating machinery in a manufacturing/production environment (die cutting/printing preferred).
• Third-party production and/or quality certifications (Preferred).

Physical Requirements

• Operates in a manufacturing environment using standard equipment, including computers and phones.
• Repetitive use of hands/dexterity to handle manufacturing tools and controls.
• Prolonged standing or sitting.
• Prolonged operation of machinery and/or power tools.
• Ability to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and near loud equipment.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
• Close and distant vision, accurate color perception, and peripheral vision are critical.
