Machine Operator I

About the role

The Machine Operator I sorts and organizes metal material, maintains housekeeping, dismantles and separates materials using hand tools or machines, and assembles and packages metals for shipping. This fully on-site role is located in Granite City, IL.

Responsibilities

• Work independently and as part of a team with safety as the top priority.
• Follow direction from department leaders.
• Set up machines to start production cycles and perform daily start-up inspections.
• Operate one stationary machine and feed raw material to semi-automated machines.
• Conduct routine and preventive maintenance; troubleshoot issues to prevent failures.
• Operate a forklift proficiently.
• Problem-solve operational issues.
• Inspect finished products for compliance with quality and safety standards.
• Perform routine housekeeping inspections of the work area.
• Follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
• Report problems to supervisors, safety, or HR.
• Adhere to daily procedures and protocols from job orientations and trainings.
• Perform other duties and work flexibly in other departments as needed.

Requirements

• 1–2 years of machine operation experience with process or production equipment in an industrial environment.
• Working knowledge of OSHA safety guidelines.
• Adherence to health and safety regulations, including proper use of PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, earplugs, steel-toed shoes, gloves, full-body harnesses).
• Ability to work in confined spaces and use respirators when required (medical clearance, fit-testing, and qualification required).
• Maintain appropriate personal grooming for effective respirator seal.
• Self-motivated with mechanical ability and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including exposure to adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to receive direction and guidance from leadership.
• Good communication and multitasking skills.
• Dependable attendance and consistency in meeting schedule requirements.
• Ability to read documents, follow written directives, and perform simple arithmetic calculations.
• High priority on safety, attentiveness, and alertness at all times.

Physical Demands

• Periods of standing, walking, negotiating stairs, ladders, elevated catwalks, and platforms.
• Walking on uneven and/or slippery surfaces.
• Exposure to non-temperature-controlled production environments.
• Manual dexterity for handling tools, samples, and materials.
• Vision abilities, including close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment.
• Ability to stand, balance, walk, and reach for extended periods.
• Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $18/hr – $20/hr (final offer based on experience, skills, and qualifications).

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM. Weekly pay schedule.
