About the role
A Machine Operator ensures the efficient setup, operation, and monitoring of food processing and packaging equipment in a high-speed production environment. This role maintains strict compliance with food safety and quality standards, performs routine checks, makes necessary adjustments, and collaborates with team members to meet daily production goals.
Responsibilities
- Operates production equipment safely and efficiently to meet production and waste goals.
- Completes required documents and checklists related to equipment operation; reports malfunctions to supervisor and maintenance.
- Accurately interprets work orders and instructions to ensure proper materials and specifications are followed.
- Troubleshoots and resolves basic-to-moderate operation difficulties.
- Ensures coffee has adequate time to gas-off.
- Completes change-over sheets, notifies line support when a change-over is necessary, and requests appropriate film, filters, and boxes.
- Uses a computer to open the appropriate coffee bin and enters item information to print correct labels.
- Programs packaging machines using a touch-sensitive computer based on manufacturing specification sheets.
- Adjusts packaging equipment to handle the appropriate case size and amount of coffee per package without stopping production.
- Manages the packaging process by closing, labeling, and taping boxes, then sending them through the tape machine.
- Performs visual, weight, and seal inspections of individual packages during operation.
- Identifies and segregates nonconforming goods for proper disposition.
- Moves boxes from the conveyor belt onto pallets and stacks them appropriately; completes pallet tickets with item number, date, and case count.
- Records downtime incurred during the shift with explanations.
- Completes maintenance work request forms when a mechanic is required.
- Cleans machines with an air hose and sweeps the working area to prevent dust on the packaging line.
- Conducts checks of packaging machines and completes changeover sheets to ensure correct bags are on the line.
- Collects and submits required samples for quality assurance purposes.
- Follows all quality system and safety protocols, including safely operating equipment, wearing proper PPE, and maintaining a clean work area.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1-2 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, including speaking, writing, active listening, and following instructions.
- Good leadership and training skills.
- Ability and willingness to promote and support a positive culture and follow company values.
- Ability to collaborate with all parts of the operation to achieve goals.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
- Able to work in a team environment with honest communication, a positive attitude, engagement, and personal accountability.
- Quick troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow specifications and manuals.
- Basic math skills.
- Mechanical aptitude, including comfort with using tools to make simple repairs.
Pay
Starting pay rate: $22.01 per hour.
