Machine Operator B

Primary Function

Operate various types of grinding equipment to remove excess stock and gates from routine castings.

Material

• Grinding belts

Working Procedure

• Adhere to all safety requirements as posted on the job safety card
• Follow all applicable work instructions
• Receive daily work assignments from the department supervisor or group leader
• Remove excess metal and gate stubs from castings using care to maintain casting dimensions and acceptable cosmetic appearance
• Maintain inter-related dimensions between holes, surfaces and right angles, with a high demand for squareness and parallelism
• Visually inspect all castings for obvious defects, notifying the supervisor of such
• Maintain batch integrity
• Replace grinding belts as necessary
• Move the castings to the next operation per the process sheet
• Maintain all labor vouchers, records, and files, in addition to a variety of logs where accuracy is paramount, and enter all required information into the Company software in a timely manner
• Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition
• Attend and successfully complete hazardous material / waste handling classes
• Attend and successfully complete training in the proper techniques of lifting
• Attend and successfully complete lock out / tag out training classes
• Perform other duties as assigned

Work Environment

• Work in an area where airborne grinding dust is present

Special Skills Required

• Good working knowledge of personal computers and related software
• Ability to handle the physical demands of the job
