About the role

The Herff Jones Production team is seeking a Seasonal Machine Operator in Virginia Beach, VA. This role supports the creation and distribution of diploma frames in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Teamwork, flexibility, and a commitment to quality and safety are essential.

Schedule

  • Standard shift: 6:00 AM – 2:45 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • Hours may fluctuate to ten- or twelve-hour days during peak season, including weekends if necessary.
  • Seasonal period: January through the end of May.

Responsibilities

  • Read detailed work orders to determine setup specifications and set up assigned machines efficiently.
  • Operate a variety of machines (cutting machinery, fastening equipment, measuring tools, stamping machines) safely and accurately to produce diploma frames.
  • Initiate trial runs to verify machine setup accuracy without supervision.
  • Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions and make necessary adjustments.
  • Maintain a safe and productive work environment.
  • Assist in the production and distribution of products.
  • Perform assigned work effectively and on schedule.
  • Record quality or scrap issues and report them to supervisors or management.
  • Notify management of safety concerns or quality issues.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and flexibility to assist with additional duties as needed.

First 30 Days

  • Learn to read work orders and set up machines according to specifications.
  • Operate various machines efficiently and safely.

First 60 Days

  • Initiate trial runs to verify machine setup accuracy without supervision.

First 90 Days

  • Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions and determine necessary adjustments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to go above and beyond to help the team achieve goals.
  • Strong attendance and punctuality record.

Physical Activities

  • Daily activities include lifting, carrying, sitting, grasping, reaching, standing, kneeling, walking, bending, and twisting.
  • Reading, communication, and basic math skills required.
  • Standing on a fatigue mat in a specific area for 10+ hour shifts.
  • Regularly lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Moderate to above-moderate noise levels in the work environment.

Pay

Minimum starting pay: $18.00 per hour.
